Yes — you can send a postcard without including a return address.
The USPS doesn’t require one for postcards, letters, or most standard mail. But like most things in life, it comes with a few caveats.
✅ When It’s Fine to Skip the Return Address
You can leave the return address off if:
- You’re confident the recipient’s address is correct
- You’re okay with the card getting lost if it can’t be delivered
- You want to stay anonymous (a little mystery never hurt)
Plenty of postcards arrive safely without return addresses — especially casual ones sent to friends and family.
⚠️ When a Return Address Might Help
Including a return address is useful if:
- You’re sending something important or sentimental
- The address might be incorrect or incomplete
- You want the card returned if it can’t be delivered
Postcards without a return address that can’t be delivered are typically discarded — they don’t get returned to you.
🧭 Where to Put the Return Address (If You Want One)
If you decide to include one, write it in small print in the top left corner of the postcard’s back — above the message area, or tucked along the edge.
Just don’t put it on the front (photo side) or the stamp area — that’ll confuse the sorting machines.
